This Sunday, the children’s church lesson will be on Acts 3, where Peter and John heal the lame man by the gate called Beautiful. I’ll be teaching the story through a dramatic presentation, so I needed to create the Beautiful Gate. I had originally planned to make the gate out of boxes, but then I found this little gem in the church basememt.
So much potential! I set it up in The Hub and got to work transforming it into the gate called Beautiful.
I started by tacking these brown curtains to the frame. I happened to have them in my office (Have I ever mentioned that what is now my office used to be a supply closet full of all sorts of oddities?), but you could do something similar with any sort of fabric. I pulled the curtain back in the middle section to give it more of a gate-ish look.
Next I added some colored ribbon. I had these lengths of ribbon pre-cut from when they were used during Rocky Point Lighthouse VBS this summer, so I kept things simple and just used them.
Next, I added several lengths of silver and gold curling ribbon. Have you ever noticed that kids tend to think of anything colorful or shiny as pretty? That’s what I was going for.
Don’t forget to give it a pretty sign so the kids know what it is! Check back early next week to see how we use the Beautiful Gate. It’s going to be a blast!
